(7/22/97) - Royalty Records is gearing up to release a long-overdue tribute to the real king of Pop, i.e. Iggy Pop. The whopping 20-track CD, entitled We Will Fall: The Iggy Pop Tribute, features the likes of Joey Ramone ("1969"), Joan Jett ("Real Wild Child"), the Misfits ("I Got A Right""), Pansy Division ("Loose"), Monster Magnet ("Gimme Danger"), Superdrag ("1970"), Nada Surf ("I'm Sick Of You"), Sugar Ray ("Cold Metal"), Extra Fancy ("Sell Your Love"), 7 Year Bitch ("Shake Appeal") and 10 other Iggy-loving artists. Though it ought to be interesting to see how the Lunachicks tackle "The Passenger" or how NY Loose interpret "Lust For Life," what promises to be the oddest track is the Red Hot Chili Peppers' version of Iggy's unofficial anthem, "Search And Destroy." Dry-witted MTV anchorman and former Rolling Stone editor Kurt Loder is providing the liner notes, which will surely make for a good read. Mr. Pop is currently in physical therapy for a shoulder injury he incurred while stage-diving on the R.O.A.R. tour, but should be in top motor-city form by the time We Will Fall is released September 16th.
