Earth, Wind & Fire To Rock The White House Tonight

(6/20/00, 10 a.m. ET) - LAUNCH has learned that Earth, Wind & Fire will be the special musical guests in Washington, D.C. tonight (June 20) at a White House state dinner.

The event, which will be held in a tent on the White House lawn, will honor His Majesty Mohammed VI, King of Morocco. The band was first contacted last week by White House staff, and they quickly agreed to do the show. The entire group flew to Washington last night (June 19), including leader Maurice White, although it was unclear whether or not White would join the band onstage for its 30-minute set.

The members of Earth, Wind & Fire had just gathered to rehearse the new stage show they'll be doing on the road this year when the call came in, and they were honored by the invitation.

Earth, Wind & Fire is getting ready for its traditional summer tour, and the itinerary is as follows (subject to change):

July 5 - Mashantucket, CT - Foxwoods Resort and Casino

July 15 - Indianapolis, IN - Indiana State Fairgrounds
July 30 - San Diego, CA - San Diego Open Air Theatre
August 1 - Thousand Oaks, CA - Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza
August 2 - Irvine, CA - Irvine Meadows
August 3 - Mountain View, CA - Shoreline Amphitheatre
August 4,5 - Lake Tahoe, NV - Caesars Tahoe
August 8 - Salt Lake City, UT - Delta Center Arena
August 9 - Denver, CO - Red Rocks Amphitheatre
