(7/11/01, 12 p.m. ET) -- Cake is easing its way back onto the live circuit, beginning with a pair of radio-sponsored shows in the coming weeks. The Sacramento, California band will travel to Atlanta for a gig on July 27 and up north to Bremerton, Washington for another on August 4. A national tour in support of its new album, Comfort Eagle, due July 24, is expected to kick off at the end of August. More details will be announced in the coming days.
The performances will be among the first by the group with its latest lineup, which now features frontman John McCrea, horn/keyboard player Vince DiFiore, guitarist Xan McCurdy, bassist Gabriel Nelson, and newest member, Pete McNeal. Cake has long suffered personnel changes, but McCrea says that this time the cast is just right.
He tells LAUNCH, "I feel like a cloud has been lifted over this band. I think that we're just sort of nipping at this new, live concert reality. We have a drummer that's just so right on. Not that our last drummer wasn't good, but there's a chemistry that's happening right now for some reason that is really a pleasure to be involved with."
Comfort Eagle features the single, "Short Skirt/Long Jacket."
