Steven Curtis Chapman Raises $25K For Hometown

(5/19/98) - Paducah, Kentucky native Steven Curtis Chapman, who's also a much-decorated star of contemporary Christian music, raised $25,000 at a benefit concert at Heath High School on May 15th. The school was the site of a grisly shooting spree last December, during which three students were shot while participating in a prayer meeting.

Chapman had performed at the funerals of the three slain students, and decided to hold a concert to raise funds for the victims' families and the development of a scholarship fund. The benefit was dubbed "A Celebration Of Hope" and was an all-out community effort, with employees of Chapman's Nashville management firm, Creative Trust, volunteering a significant amount of time and labor to the cause.
