Travis's 'Side' Has Rap Influence

(1/3/02, 12 p.m. ET) -- With the arrival of 2002, British rockers Travis continue to get some mileage out of their near-seven-month-old album, The Invisible Band, thanks to their latest single, "Side." The song checks in at Number 21 on the Billboard Adult Top 40 chart in its seventh week on the listing.
Perhaps surprisingly, the feel-good rock song boasts a rap influence. Travis frontman Fran Healy tells LAUNCH, "It started out as a rap, believe it or not. I was just, like, writing loads of words and there was a beat going through it, and I would be saying, like, 'East side, west side, upside, downside.' The melody for it came out of that. And I just started singing because I'm not a good rapper. I couldn't save my life if I had to rap, you know?"
Travis kicks off an extensive arena tour back home in the U.K. in Nottingham, England on February 25.
