(1/2/02, 5 p.m. ET) -- Rock And Roll Hall Of Famers the Bee Gees were among those on Queen Elizabeth's New Year Honors List in Great Britain, which was revealed Monday (December 31). The three brothers--Barry, Maurice, and Robin Gibb--were each presented with the Commander Of The Order Of The British Empire (CBE) honor and were among the nearly 1,000 British citizens receiving citations, including knighthoods, from Queen Elizabeth II.
Among this year's other recipients were singer Sade, actors Ben Kingsley and Lynn Redgrave, heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis, and Nasser Hussain, captain of the English national cricket team.
The Bee Gees, who were born in England and raised in Australia, were honored for nearly four decades of recording, including hits such as "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart," "Jive Talkin'," "Stayin' Alive," and "How Deep Is Your Love." The trio is planning a world tour this year to follow up the recent release of its two-disc retrospective, Their Greatest Hits - The Record.
