(9/28/01, 6 p.m. ET) -- Cypress Hill has canceled the October 13 Oakland, California date of its Smoke Out Tour, because of prior commitments at Oakland Coliseum made to Major League Baseball and the Oakland A's, which had to reschedule a number of games due to the terrorist attacks on the United States.
The Smoke Out Tour is an extension of the Los Angeles-based one-day festival Cypress Hill has staged in the past. Promoter Chang Weisberg, of Guerilla Union Events, said in a statement, "On behalf of everyone involved with the Cypress Hill Smoke Out Tour and Guerilla Union, we are deeply saddened that we will be unable to produce the Smoke Out in Oakland. Of course, this is nothing compared to the grief and sorrow that has gripped this country. We would like to thank all of the fans, bands, management, and media for being sympathetic towards our show and we hope to bring this great event to the bay area soon."
The October 6 Los Angeles show line-up has been beefed up with the addition of Machinehead, Fear Factory, Chimaira, and Ill Nino. The main performers for that show include Cypress Hill, Deftones, Busta Rhymes, Redman, Method Man, Long Beach Dub Allstars, Erick Sermon & Keith Murray, NoFX, and Afroman, among others.
Organizers are working on finding another venue in the New York area, since New Jersey's PNC Bank Arts Center wasn't available for the proposed September 29 date. Smoke Out is also working on another date for the area as well. Still confirmed is Smoke Out's Hawaii date, which is set for October 21.
