(4/30/01, 12 p.m. ET) -- New Edition/Bell Biv Devoe member Ricky Bell has been enjoying the reaction to his single "Still I Rise," which he released last year on a music website. When the song became one of the site's most popular downloads, Bell decided to release his first solo album, Ricardo Campana. The interest in his solo career coincides with forthcoming projects with his singing groups New Edition and Bell Biv Devoe (BBD).
Bell told LAUNCH that the '80s boy band New Edition is also working on a movie script. "We're writing the screenplay for the New Edition story right now. We hope to have that out sometime at the end of the year 2002. All of the members are involved in the writing, along with our manager and choreographer Brooke Payne. This is going to definitely be our story, the real deal. We're going to be in the movie, just a little bit. But for the most part, we'll have other guys playing us."
Bell also mentioned that New Edition will begin working on a reunion album in the next year. BBD recently signed a deal with Universal Records, and is working on its third studio album.
The precursor to New Kids On The Block, the Backstreet Boys, and 'N Sync, teen group New Edition released a series of R&B/pop albums during the '80s, including 1983's Candy Girl, 1984's New Edition, 1985's All For Love, 1986's Under The Blue Moon, and 1989's Heartbreak. The group released its first reunion album, Home Again, in 1996.
