R&B Pioneers Get Cash Rewards

(2/18/98) - The Rhythm & Blues Foundation has named the O'Jays, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Faye Adams, Bobby Byrd, Tyrone Davis, Ernie K-Doe, Kim Weston, the Five Satins, Herb Abramson, David "Fathead" Newman and the Harptones as recipients of the Ninth Annual Pioneer Awards, recognizing with cash awards the artists' contributions to R&B.

The Foundation will bestow awards totaling $205,000 to the 12 greats February 26th at the New York Sheraton. Sire Records CEO Seymour Stein will serve as Honorary Chairman of the event, which will include live performances by the evening's honorees.
