Filter To Release 'The Best Things'

(2/25/00, 1 p.m. ET) - The follow-up to Filter's smash single, "Take A Picture," will be the track, "The Best Things," a tune found both on their album Title Of Record and on The Crow: Salvation soundtrack, which will hit stores March 28. The video for the clip may include an actor or two from the film, according to a spokesperson for the band. The shoot is tentatively scheduled for this Sunday, Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 27-29), and it will be directed by Peter Christopherson, who directed the band's "Take A Picture" video. Filter had one of its most fun experiences making a video for the first clip from Title Of Record, "Welcome To The Fold." The band was living large since the video company rented a Mustang convertible for them. Cranking the Doors, they were feeling a bit intoxicated on the band and Jim Morrison's rock 'n' roll banter and all was fine until they reached the shoot location in the California desert. Vocalist Richard Patrick and guitarist Geno Lenardo tell LAUNCH they had a little too much fun. "We were just like going crazy, so we went out into the salt flats and just ruined this car. We did like a million doughnuts and we were pushing it to like 160 miles an hour," Patrick says. "[We] completely overheated the thing, literally," adds Lenardo. "The thing caught fire, burnt, everything," Patrick continues. "Bad, bad move. That was the most expensive part about the video because we didn't rent the car. The video production company rented the car, so it wasn't our fault. They shouldn't have lent us the car, but it was hysterical." Lenardo adds, "They weren't that upset about it, though. They were actually watching us do this." Nobody got hurt, as Patrick explains, "Someone ran out with a fire extinguisher and popped the hood and put it out. It's not like we burned out the engine but things were not good." The bad part about the experience was that the Mustang was supposed to be the band's ride back to Los Angeles. -- Darren Davis, New York
