Five For Fighting's Ondrasik On Concert For New York, Townshend & Taylor

(12/27/01, 12 p.m. ET) -- As 2001 comes to a close, Five For Fighting frontman John Ondrasik said that one of the most amazing moments of the past year for him was his performance at the historic Concert For New York City on October 20. Ondrasik performed his group's single, "Superman (It's Not Easy)," for an audience consisting of thousands of New York City firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and their families.
Ondrasik told LAUNCH that while the event was personally "the night of a thousand lifetimes"-- it was also unimaginably sad. "People ask me if it was the night of a lifetime, and I think it was the night of a thousand lifetimes, frankly," he said. "To have one arm around Pete Townshend and the other around James Taylor singing 'Let It Be,' you know, if it wasn't for the nature of the event would have been beyond a dream come true. But when you walk out and you sit down at your piano and people are holding up pictures of loved ones they've lost–it really puts the whole thing in perspective. So, I was just honored to be a part of that, and playing 'Superman' in New York is always very special."
