Kelis Says Her Songs Based Half On Reality, Half On Imagination
07/24/2000 12:00 PM, Yahoo! Music Craig Rosen
(7/24/00, 12 p.m. ET) - Kelis based her hit single "Caught Out There" on a real-life experience, but the singer says some of her work isn't based on reality. She told LAUNCH that half of her music is realistic. "I always say, like, all my songs. . . It's about half and half: All my music is half completely realistic, like it happened yesterday," she explained. "Then the other half is really just like imagination or how I perceive what happened yesterday, or just my take on it." In addition to her own recordings, Kelis has appeared on "Got Your Money," the lead single from Ol' Dirty Bastard's N---a Please, and "Cocaine Business (Hysteria)," a cut from Noreaga's Melvin Flynt -- Da Hustler. Both Ol' Dirty Bastard's and Noreaga's albums went gold. Kelis's Kaleidoscope is in stores now. -- Soren Baker and Billy Johnson Jr, Los Angeles
