Meat Loaf's New 'Bat Out Of Hell' Out Today

(1/30/01, 12 p.m. ET) - The upgraded version of Meat Loaf's Bat Out Of Hell is released today on the Cleveland International/Epic/Legacy label. The new album features digitally-remastered music, a complete set of lyrics, and two new tracks not included on the original: live versions of Ravel's "Bolero" and "Bat Out Of Hell," the opening numbers from Meat's concert at the Nassau Coliseum in Hempstead, New York, on September 1, 1978.

LAUNCH asked Meat Loaf to explain the enduring success of Bat Out Of Hell, which has sold more than 13 million copies in the U.S. and at least that many internationally. He said it's because people see themselves in the album's imagery. "It's no longer about me," he said. "It belongs to you, and you create your own stories, and you create your own place in time for that record. Everything is geared so that when you hear it, you're funneled right into that speaker, and it becomes a visual of your life, as opposed to a visual of my life."

-- Darren Davis and Bruce Simon, New York
