(10/5/00, 12 a.m. ET) - After eight consecutive years of taking home the trophy for vocal duo of the year, Brooks & Dunn's winning streak came to an end when Montgomery Gentry stepped up to accept the award Wednesday (October 4) night at the Country Music Association Awards in Nashville.

Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry, with Gentry saying, "I want to thank Brooks & Dunn. Thank you for letting us be a part of your team this past year. I want to thank the Judds and go back to George [Jones] and Tammy [Wynette] and all the great legendaries for letting us be a part of this tradition. I hope we can hold it up and make well in this duo category. God bless y'all so much."

Montgomery added, "Who's yo' daddy?!!"

Later, when Brooks & Dunn presented the award for female vocalist of the year after the loss, Kix Brooks yawned and said, "When's the duo award?" followed by a comment directed at partner Ronnie Dunn, "I told you not to wear those stupid glasses." Dunn joked back, "Maybe we should break up."
