The Indigo Girls, Sarah McLachlan, Dolly Parton, and Joan Baez are among the artists who appear on Respond II, a two-CD set due January 22, benefiting families affected by domestic violence.
Other performers on the two-disc collection include Tanya Donnelly (Breeders, Belly), Aimee Mann, alternative all-woman rock band Sleater-Kinney, world music star Angelique Kidjo, blues guitar slinger Susan Tedeschi, avant-garde folkie Ani Di Franco, plus Suzanne Vega, Patty Griffin, Tracy Bonham, Odetta, Julie Miller, and Sweet Honey In The Rock.
The benefit release comes from Catalyst Disc/Signature Sounds, distributed by Koch, with all proceeds going to RESPOND Inc. and the Family Violence Prevention Fund(FVPF).
The set follows the first Respond collection, issued in 1999, which raised more than $125,000. It featured Juliana Hatfield, Mary Lou Lord, Patty Larkin, and 24 other artists.
Since 1974, RESPOND Inc. has worked to end domestic violence, serving thousands of women each year with a 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, a safe home program, and individual and group counseling sessions, as well as offering children's services, outreach, and a teen dating violence intervention program.
FVPF also aids women and children who are victims of domestic violence, partnering with health care providers and employers.
