Mighty Mighty Bosstones & Reel Big Fish On Vans Warped Tour DVD, Out Now

(4/1/03, 12 p.m. ET) -- The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Reel Big Fish, New Found Glory, and NOFX are just a few of the bands featured on Vans Warped Tour Live, a DVD coming out on Tuesday (April 1). A total of 17 songs comprise the first-ever DVD released from the long-running music festival.
Warped Tour founder Kevin Lymon says the DVD was the brainchild of a new employee to the tour. "You know, we did the Punk Rock Summer Camp video in 1998, which was on held hand, held skateboarder friend of mine. It really just kind of came more around with Laura Sanders, who came to work with me on the tour. She said, 'We should do a DVD.' And I'm, like, 'I think, yeah, it's great. Let's do a DVD. How do we do a DVD?' And it all came together, amazingly."
In addition to branching out into DVDs, the Warped Tour has plans to launch a Girls Garage tour in the fall. The idea behind the new tour is to showcase female rock groups that might get overlooked in the male-dominated format. Lymon explains that the experience of running the Warped Tour will help greatly in the development of the Girls Garage tour.
"I'm actually launching a new tour in the fall this year," Lymon said. "It's gonna be call Girls Garage, because I always look at is we're breaking bands, but the same reason radio hasn't started grabbing on to girl-fronted bands. So, we're gonna start a tour out in the fall and latch on to a few of these bands--use the Warped Tour kind of marketing machine to help them get exposure, to bring the bands around. We'll launch it off the back end of the Warped Tour, and go out and do something really fun this fall."
