(1/29/02, 10 a.m. ET) -- Gang Starr, which comprises DJ Premier and Guru, is back at work on its still-untitled next album, which is due out in July. LAUNCH caught up with Guru and his young son on the set of Ray Benzino's latest video, "Shine Like My Son," and the Gang Starr rapper shared some of the details of the forthcoming set.
"We've got about four, five songs done, got some special guests, you know? Hopefully we trying to get D'Angelo up on there. Of course, we gonna have M.O.P., another 'Militia' with Big Shug and Freddie Foxxx, and some other special guests I don't want to tell."
Guru also shared that fans can expect another installment in his Jazzmatazz series in 2003, and that his partner DJ Premier is hard at work on his forthcoming Terror Squad/Atlantic Records-distributed compilation.
Gang Starr's last release was 1999's gold-certified Full Clip: A Decade Of Gang Starr, which was preceded by the group's commercial breakthrough, 1998's gold-certified Moment Of Truth. The group's previous releases include 1989's No More Mr. Nice Guy, 1991's Step In The Arena, 1992's Daily Operation, and 1994's Hard To Earn.
