Montgomery Gentry & Others Added To Three-Hour Freedom Concert

(10/18/01, 4 p.m. ET) -- With the recent additions of Montgomery Gentry, Diamond Rio, and Earl Scruggs, Sunday's (October 21) Country Freedom Concert has been expanded to three hours.
Toby Keith and Travis Tritt, who are unable to perform at the show due to prior commitments, have taped special segments to air during the concert. Keith's segment was filmed while visiting rescue personnel and Salvation Army volunteers at Ground Zero in New York City.
"The TV screen cannot capture the magnitude of the devastation," said Keith. "There is too much horror there to even be able to comprehend with your own eyes. The relief and rescue workers are fortunate to have the Salvation Army and their around-the-clock efforts on hand during this terrible crisis. The Salvation Army provides a bright light in New York City's darkest hours."
Tritt had the chance to speak with members of the military and their families at Dobbins Air Force Base in Georgia. "After having an opportunity to speak with the men and women serving in our military, I have a renewed sense of confidence in our country and its security," Tritt said. "In talking to these brave men and women, you quickly discover that they are confident, highly trained, and ready to go at a moment's notice when they are called. They give me yet another reason to be proud to be a citizen of the greatest nation on this planet."
The Country Freedom Concert, which boasts the talent of George Strait, Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn, Martina McBride, Tim McGraw, Vince Gill, George Jones, Lonestar, Lee Ann Womack, Trisha Yearwood, Hank Williams Jr., and Sara Evans, will take place at the Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville. The show will be broadcast live and uninterrupted by CMT at 8 p.m. ET. All proceeds will benefit the Salvation Army's disaster relief efforts.
