(1/24/02, 4 p.m. ET) -- A Bernalillo County, New Mexico, judge has issued an arrest warrant for Carlene Carter after she failed to attend a December arraignment on felony drug charges.
Police found 2.9 grams of black-tar heroin and residue-covered drug paraphernalia in a sports utility vehicle (SUV) with Carter and her boyfriend, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers bassist Howie Epstein, after stopping the couple for speeding on Interstate 25 in Albuquerque last June. At the time, they were reportedly headed for the airport so Epstein could head out on a Heartbreakers tour.
Epstein was not charged in the case, but Carter--the step-daughter of Johnny Cash and daughter of June Carter Cash and Carl Smith--was indicted in December on charges of heroin and paraphernalia possession.
The SUV was reportedly stolen from a dealership in Santa Fe, New Mexico, but neither Carter nor Epstein have been charged with anything related to that.
Carter said "everything's fine" when she was contacted by an AP reporter at her home in Tesuque, New Mexico.
Carter is best known for her hits "I Fell In Love" and "Every Little Thing," which climbed the charts in the early '90s.
