(4/10/03, 6 p.m. ET) -- Dr. Dre, Eminem, Interscope Records, and Universal Music And Video Distribution were hit with an amended copyright-infringement lawsuit in Los Angeles District Court last week by Minder Music Ltd., a London-based music publisher. Minder alleges that Dr. Dre's "Let's Get High" featuring Kurupt, Hittman, and Ms. Roq--which was co-written by Eminem--illegally used segments of the 1980 tune "Backstrokin'." Minder, which initially filed suit in July of 2000, is seeking $3.5 million in damages.
Dr. Dre's attorney, Howard King, told Billboard that the music in question is a very common bass riff, and that Minder was seeking a ridiculous amount of money.
"Let's Get High" was included on Dr. Dre's last album, 1999's Dr. Dre 2001, which has sold more than 6 million copies since its release.
