(8/29/02, 12 p.m. ET) -- Eminem, P.O.D., and Missy Elliott are the big nominees--with six apiece--going into Thursday's (August 29) MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), which will be held at New York City's Radio City Music Hall.
Performers for the main show include Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Justin Timberlake, Pink, the Hives, the Vines, Ja Rule, Sheryl Crow, Ashanti, Eminem, Nas, Shakira, and P. Diddy, plus some surprises.
The show's host, Jimmy Fallon of Saturday Night Live fame, told LAUNCH what people can expect from this year's VMAs, saying, "It's the biggest room in New York City for me. There's thousands of people and there's going to be a lot of fun people in the room--gonna be a lot of great artists I totally respect and look forward to meeting and seeing...It's a good vibe over there. A lot of surprises, I can guarantee you--there's definitely some surprises. You'll love it."
So who are Fallon's personal picks? "I'd love to see...Eminem is great. I really love that record. I saw Justin Timberlake's performance earlier. It was absolutely amazing. And Puff Daddy has spent more on his performance than, I think, he has on the last four parties he's had, I think."
Presenters include Brandy, James Gandolfini, Usher, Kirsten Dunst, Linkin Park, Brittany Murphy, P.O.D., Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, Nelly, Avril Lavigne, Enrique Iglesias, B2K, Johnny Knoxville, Bow Wow, and Paula Abdul, among others.
The MTV Video Music Awards begin at 8 p.m. ET. Among those set to strut their stuff on the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards Opening Act pre-show are Avril Lavigne, Ludacris, and Disturbing Tha Peace.
