Offspring Million Goes To 14-Year-Old Girl

(11/15/00, 12 p.m. ET) - Fourteen-year-old Ashley Hitchcock ended up besting the other three finalist to win the "One Million Dollar Giveaway" sponsored by the Offspring Tuesday (November 14) in New York City. A big container containing loose hundred-dollar bills was presented to Hitchcock in Times Square as she posed for pictures with the band.

Offspring guitarist Noodles told LAUNCH about the unprecedented contest: "It feels great to be able to do this. It's cool. She seems like a great kid. Hopefully she'll be smart with it. I think she will."

Hitchock told LAUNCH what it was like to be one of the world's youngest millionaires: "It's like, I'm shocked. It's overwhelming. I can't believe I won."

The winner's heart seems to be in the right place: She told LAUNCH the money will go to a good cause. "Well, I have to half it with the other finalist, which I promised her I would. Then I'm going to buy my dad a house, a car, and get him out of debt."

Hitchcock and runner-up Christina Belmont had made a pact during the finals that the winner would split the million.

Four finalists -- Belmont and Hitchcock, plus Greg Rosinski and Steve McKeehan -- were chosen at random from fans who downloaded the track "Original Prankster" from the Offspring's website. They then battled through rigorous questions on MTV's TRL, with Hitchcock coming out on top.
