(6/1/99, 1 a.m. PDT) - Former Kinks leader Ray Davies has finished up the latest leg of his Storyteller tour, and now has some other projects in the works. Davies posted a message to his fans at his official website (www.raydavies.com) discussing one of the more odd moments of the tour, when founding Kinks bassist Pete Quaife, who quit the band in 1969, showed up at one of his shows. "It was odd to see Pete Quaife in the front row of the audience in Atlantic City, particularly as I was talking about him during the show." Last year, Davies composed a choral piece, called "The Flatlands," which was performed at the Norwich & Norfolk Festival in England in October of 1998. A recording of the piece should be released on CD in "the near future," according to Davies's website. Meanwhile, Davies has begun working on a solo album. He also recently finished a book of short stories titled Waterloo Sunset, which is due in the U.S. in September. Davies is also preparing a video release of Storyteller, which he also plans to bring to Broadway. Meanwhile, a group calling itself the Kast Off Kinks is playing a one-off gig on Aug. 28 in Broxbourne, England. The band features three former Kinks--bass player John Dalton, who was in the band briefly in 1966, from 1969 to 1976, and then again briefly in 1978; keyboardist John Gosling, who was with the band from 1971 until 1978; and founding drummer Mick Avory, who was with the band from 1963 to 1986. Tickets for the show cost five pounds. The show is just a one-off, and tickets are available through the Kinks' Official Fan Club (write to them at PO Box 30, Atherstone, Warwickshire, CV9 2ZX, England for more information). -- Brian Ives, New York Got news tips, comments, or questions?
