INXS, Men At Work, Midnight Oil Mapping U.S. Tour?

(3/7/01, 10 a.m. ET) - In what would be a pooling of three of the most successful Australian bands in the last 20 years, INXS, Midnight Oil, and Men At Work might be touring together in the United States beginning in May. Details remain sketchy, but the bands are scheduled to appear together at Atlanta's Chastain Park Amphitheatre on May 28, according to concert promotion firm SFX Entertainment.
The official Midnight Oil website (midnightoil.com) gives credence to the concept as it reports that the band is planning on being stateside for two months of dates beginning at around that same time.
According to a note on the official INXS website (inxs.com), the group has been contacted about the tour, but that nothing has been finalized. Reads the note, "INXS Management has been consulted, and whilst the band have [sic] been approached with the idea of a tour with Midnight Oil and Men At Work, there is NO confirmation at this time."
Still, the INXS site explains, "The idea behind the tour relates to 'Australian music' and not about any one band supporting another or headlining."
For INXS's part, a tour would likely include recent vocalist Jon Stevens who stepped in last year to replace the group's famed frontman, the late Michael Hutchence. Stevens, previously of the Australian band Noiseworks, has played a handful of gigs with the group, including one in front of a worldwide television audience at the closing ceremonies of the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia.
