Chicago Catalog Acquired By Rhino

05/08/2002 12:00 PM, Yahoo! Music
Billy Altman

(5/8/02, 12 p.m. ET) -- Chicago--the band, not the city--has a new home at Rhino Records. The label, which specializes in reissues and archival packages, has signed a deal with the band to acquire its catalog and reissue its 26 albums, as well as to produce new packages of its material.

The program will start with a new Greatest Hits set on July 2, a two-disc collection that will feature 39 tracks. Later that month Rhino will put out deluxe-edition reissues of the band's first three albums--1969's Chicago Transit Authority, 1970's Chicago II, and 1971's Chicago III--and all will featured enhanced sound and bonus tracks.

In a statement, Chicago manager Peter Schivarelli--who has guided the group's own label for the past decade after its tenures with Columbia and Reprise--said of the new deal, "We are very pleased that Chicago's entire body of work has been united under one roof. We know that the Warner Music Group, and Rhino Records specifically, will do an amazing job with this incredible catalog."

Since forming in the late '60s as one of the first rock bands to boast a horn section, Chicago has sold more than 120 million albums, has won one Grammy Award, and has received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.
