(3/11/02, 3 p.m. ET) -- Puddle Of Mudd singer Wes Scantlin was arrested in Fillmore, California early Sunday morning (March 10). He was taken in on suspicion of injuring his fiancee, Michelle Rubin. Rubin, 31, was also taken in and jailed on suspicion of inflicting injury. Scantlin, 29, and Rubin were released on $20,000 bond each.
The two were en route to a music video shoot for "Drift And Die," the band's next single, when the singer allegedly began fighting with Rubin on the shoulder of the road near Center Street in Piru. At about 8:30 a.m. PT concerned citizens phoned police from their cell phones after witnesses told police Scantlin allegedly forced Rubin into a Jeep Cherokee. The struggle continued in the vehicle. Sheriff's deputies and California highway patrol officers found the Jeep, pulled it over, and arrested the couple.
Eric Nishimoto, Public Information Officer for the Ventura County Sheriff's Department, told LAUNCH the duo must appear in Ventura County court later this month. "We arrested Wesley Reid Scantlin and Michelle Rubin for domestic violence," he said. "They were booked into our county jail. They actually both posted bail within about a half-an-hour, and they have been released and are scheduled to be back in court on the 15th (of March)."
As to what exactly the couple is charged with, Nishimoto told LAUNCH, "It's penal code section 273.5. That's inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or significant other. That's, in general, how the penal code reads. And in this case Rubin and Scantlin were apparently engaged, as of yesterday anyway. I don't know what the situation is now."
