MC Hammer To Launch Clothing Line

(8/23/01, 5 p.m. ET) - MC Hammer is preparing to launch an upscale men's clothing-and-accessories line called the J. Slick Collection By MC Hammer. The rapper will debut the clothing line and perform at the upcoming MAGIC retail convention in Las Vegas August 27-30.
MC Hammer explained why he choose MAGIC to debut his new line, "The MAGIC convention is the premier venue to showcase the company's new retail line of superior-quality men's formal wear, business suits, and accessories. The J. Slick Collection will be in the company of such global enterprises as Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein. Our initial exposure for the product line will be tremendous and should help build momentum among the entertainment, fashion, and retail industries." MC Hammer also plans to license the brand name so that the collection will also include men's shirts, belts, shoes, undergarments, hats, and cologne.
In related news, in November Hammer will release a new album, The Autobiography Of MC Hammer, which will include appearances by several new artists currently working on albums for his WorldHit Music Group. Among the new artists are Pleasure, the Stooge Players, Analise, James Greer, and Chuck Get Down, and they span several different genres of music, including pop, hip-hop, alternative, and R&B.
