(7/10/01, 12 p.m. ET) -- Natalie Merchant will release her first studio album since 1998 on November 6. Titled The Motherland, the effort is currently being recorded with producer T-Bone Burnett, whose past credits include the Wallflowers, Counting Crows, and Elvis Costello.

New songs include: "Try To Hurt You, " "Put The Law On You, " "Saint Judas, " "The House Is On Fire, " "Motherland, " "Not In This Life, " "Tell Yourself, " "Build A Levee, " "It Just Can't Last, " "I'm Not Gonna Beg, " "Golden Boy, " and "Henry Darger. "

The Motherland will be the former 10,000 Maniacs singer's fourth solo album overall, following 1995's Tigerlily, 1998's Ophelia, and 1999's Live In Concert. Merchant was last heard on Mermaid Avenue and Mermaid Avenue, Vol. 2, the Woody Guthrie series by Billy Bragg and Wilco.
