(5/9/01, 4 p.m. ET) -- L.A. Laker and rapper Shaquille O'Neal says he was joking when he commented last week on a Los Angeles radio station that he had slept with R&B singer/actress Aaliyah, tennis star Venus Williams, and supermodel Cindy Crawford.
"I thought when people heard those three names that they automatically knew that I was going to be joking," he said on The Steve Harvey Morning Show Wednesday (May 9). "Obviously, it was a bad joke, and I did not mean to hurt none of those beautiful young ladies' feelings. And I apologize."
Aaliyah, Williams, and Crawford were all upset by O'Neal's antics. In a statement, Williams lashed out at O'Neal. "I categorically and unequivocally deny that I have ever had a sexual relationship with Shaquille O'Neal. I don't even know him. I've only met Shaquille once a few years ago, when attending an L.A. Lakers game. If Shaquille made the statement as a joke, it was in very bad taste, and I am definitely offended. I think that he should use better judgment in the future, particularly where one's reputation is concerned."
O'Neal said that he had intimate relations with the women when asked if he had ever had sex with a celebrity as part of a radio-station segment, "Hat Of Forbidden Questions." The morning-show skit prompts celebrities to answer as many racy questions as possible. Shaquille answered all of the questions that asked him to reveal the size of his penis, the last time he had a threesome, and the last time he cheated on his significant other.
O'Neal's next album, Shaquille O'Neal Presents His Superfriends, is scheduled to be released August 7.
