(9/6/00, 1 p.m. ET) - Ex-members of Snot and current members of Sevendust, Sugar Ray, Incubus, System Of A Down, Disturbed, and Ozzy Osbourne's band converged on a Malibu, California, beachfront Sunday (September 3) to shoot a video honoring befallen Snot singer Lynn Strait. The clip is for the song "Angel Son," from the upcoming Strait U tribute album. Strait was killed in a car accident in 1998. The nighttime shoot mostly took place around a bonfire in the sand outside a private residence in the exclusive coastal city. Former Snot players Mikey Doling and John "Tumor" Fahnestock, now in Soulfly and Amen, respectively, also participated in the shoot, while "the 'spirit' of Lynn Strait was present as well," according to a spokesperson for the project. Many in attendance also appear on the album, which features current singers adding vocals to music previously recorded by Snot for an album left unfinished after Strait's death. For "Angel Son," Sevendust frontman Lajon Witherspoon had the honor. Others taking lead vocals include Korn's Jonathan Davis, Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst, and Sugar Ray's Mark McGrath. McGrath tells LAUNCH that Strait Up will help him remember a good friend. "He's one of those guys that just jumped into the inner circle right away and became, like, one of my best friends immediately," he says. "So, it was an extreme loss, a huge loss in my life. This thing's great. It keeps the spirit of Lynn alive, it keeps the spirit of the band alive. It's kinda bittersweet to me, though, because I would have really loved to have seen what they would have done with this record. I think it would have been, like, their Godsmack. It would have been their breakthrough record." Strait Up arrives in stores from Immortal/Virgin on November 7. -- Neal Weiss, Los Angeles
