Disturbed Readies First Single 'Prayer'

(6/12/02, 3 p.m. ET) -- Disturbed's forthcoming album, Believe, is slated to hit stores later this summer. The first single from the album, "Prayer," may hit radio next month, and while it may surprise fans, it's still unmistakably Disturbed.
Singer-songwriter David Draiman told LAUNCH what inspired the song. "'Prayer' was a song that came out of two things in particular. It's a reflection on the recent passing of my grandfather, may he rest in peace, and the events of 9/11."
Draiman went on to say he was appalled at public figures taking advantage of the tragedy. "It horrified me to the greatest extent that I can possibly internalize in respect to the way that people like Jerry Falwell and Oral Roberts reacted to 9/11. Instead of trying to console their people and their followers and the people who look to them for leadership and comforting in their time in need. Instead they used it as a pedestal to empower themselves and to chastise them, preaching about a God who inflicts pain and suffering upon its people in order for them to return to 'the way.'"
To tide fans over until the release of Believe, Disturbed has released a DVD, M.O.L., featuring live clips and videos spanning the band's rise from the Chicago music scene.
