Vines & Silverchair Rep Rock At ARIA Awards

(9/17/02, 6 p.m. ET) -- The Vines scored five nominations, while Silverchair took three nominations for Australia's ARIA Awards, which were announced on Monday (September 16). The Vines were nominated for best group, single of the year, and best new artist single (both of the latter for "Get Free"); and its album Highly Evolved was nominated for best new artist album and best rock album.
Silverchair is up for best group, and its album Diorama is up for album of the year and best rock album.
Silverchair singer-songwriter Daniel Johns was also honored in the ARIA Artisan Awards, which have already been awarded to producers and behind-the-scenes artists. Johns won for producer of the year co-producing Diorama, and for best cover art for his part in creating the Diorama package.
Pop artist Kylie Minogue led all nominees for the ARIA awards with six.
