Andrew W.K. On OzzFest Without Sharon Osbourne

(7/30/02, 1 p.m. ET) -- Ozzy Osbourne played his last date with OzzFest 2002 on Sunday (July 28) in Atlanta, but plans to return to the tour on August 22 in Denver. The Ozzman is taking a leave of absence to be at wife Sharon's side for chemotherapy treatments in her battle with cancer.
OzzFest performer Andrew W.K. told LAUNCH what it has been like on OzzFest this year knowing that the tour's mastermind, Sharon Osbourne is battling cancer. "I know everybody was freaked out about that. I'm blown away by... She was running this thing from the hospital at times. I think everybody's really pulled together and maybe stepped up their efforts to compensate for the fact that our leader is not here, but Sharon all the best, and I hope that you continue to recover and get stronger than ever before."
He added, "She is the monolith of strength that is driving this whole thing and holding it together when it starts to fall apart. She is the person who designed, executes, manipulates, fuses together all these elements that you never think in a million years would be able to fly. But somehow or another her genius is able to make something so chaotic come together and smoothly operate. Even when she's not here."
OzzFest 2002 has several off days before resuming with System Of A Down headlining Saturday (August 3) in Columbus, Ohio. Neurotica moves to the main stage with that show, and will kick things off at 5 p.m. local time. Neurotica also has contributed a cover of the Beatles' "I Am The Walrus" to the OzzFest 2002 album, which is due out next month.
