Travis Maps Out Fall U.S. Tour, Readies New Single

(8/9/01, 10 a.m. ET) -- Travis will return to North America this fall for its first headlining tour in support of its third album, The Invisible Band, which arrived in stores from Epic Records in June. The Scottish group will play 19 dates across the continent, kicking it off in Montreal September 29. The group's first American show is in Washington D.C. on October 2. Remy Zero opens.
The tour announcement coincides with the release of "Side," the follow-up single to the group's first effort from The Invisible Band, "Sing." The song arrive at radio August 21.
Travis frontman Fran Healy tells LAUNCH that "Side" is about overcoming the jealousy that people have for each other. "Like the guy driving the bashed up Mini Cooper is jealous of the guy driving the Porsche because, God, that's such a beautiful car," he says. "But then the guy driving the Porsche is kinda jealous of the guy driving the Mini because the guy in the Mini lives such a sort of rustic, kinda real life, you know? And you're never quite happy with what you've got. And if you took it all out you would realize that, you know, the fact that we're alive, you know what I mean, we're all kinda lucky to actually be here in the first place. You've got to make the most of what you've got, where you've got it."
Fans in the U.K. will get special bonus tracks with two different retail releases of "Side" next month. The first single includes a live version of the group's own "Driftwood" and the David Bowie-penned Mott The Hoople classic, "All The Young Dudes." Single number two features a studio cover of Bob Dylan's "You're A Big Girl Now" and the new Travis song, "Ancient Train."
