Alien Ant Farm In Top 20 Thanks To 'Smooth Criminal'

(8/9/01, 7 a.m. ET) -- Alien Ant Farm's debut album, Anthology, has entered into the top 20 albums in the country. It comes in at Number 18 on the Billboard 200. The album has also been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America for sales of 500,000 copies.
Anthology is gaining steam thanks to a hot version of Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal." Equally captivating is the video, directed by Marc Klasfeld, which spoofs the "King Of Pop"'s clips for "Billie Jean," "Black Or White," and "Thriller."
LAUNCH asked singer Dryden Mitchell if people miss the point of the video. "I think it's a funny video, but we're not trying to make fun of Michael Jackson. I mean, we're all big fans, like every single one member of the band is a fan of Michael Jackson. We just tried to put in as many spoofy Michael Jackson-isms as possible... In fact, we sent and submitted our video to Michael Jackson to approve, because we didn't want to offend him, and he liked it, so we're glad."
Alien Ant Farm finishes with the Warped Tour on Sunday (August 12), and then heads to Europe for festival dates.
