(6/13/01, 4 p.m. ET) -- Rock veterans Joan Jett, Motorhead, and former Skid Row singer Sebastian Bach are among those taking part in Twisted Forever, a tribute album to the '80s rock outfit Twisted Sister, which distinguished itself as an MTV favorite with its exuberantly comic videos for hits such as "I Wanna Rock" and "We're Not Gonna Take It."
Due out August 14, the 16 tracks on Twisted Forever include Jett's take on "We're Not Gonna Take It," Motorhead's rendition of "Shoot 'Em Down," and Bach's version of "You Can't Stop Rock 'N Roll." The rest of the album features mostly younger bands such as Lit and Sevendust, with rapper Chuck D. of Public Enemy making a surprise appearance for a version of "Wake Up The Sleeping Giant." Twisted Sister makes an appearance as well, with a cover of AC/DC's "Sin City," a personal favorite of the band's.
As it happens, Motorhead actually played a crucial role in the band's career. Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider told LAUNCH that the band was about to take the stage at a big festival in front of a hostile Motorhead crowd in 1982 that could have sunk the band's career if not for Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister. "Lemmy recognized the smell of s--t in people's pants and actually came and he said, 'Let me introduce you,' brought us out, which gave us that breathing room with his audience. I mean, their arms were back, ready to throw stuff at us when Lemmy stepped in, and that was just enough time for them to see that it wasn't what they thought it was," he said. "This was a new hybrid glam metal that Twisted Sister was presenting, and the audience just went wild for us and it launched us in the U.K. I think that gesture was the difference between it going all the way or it dying on the vine right there."
The full tracklist for Twisted Forever includes Lit, "I Wanna Rock"; Joan Jett, "We're Not Gonna Take It"; Motorhead, "Shoot 'Em Down"; Nashville Pussy, "The Kids Are Back"; Nine Days, "The Price"; Chuck D., "Wake Up The Sleeping Giant"; Anthrax, "Destroyer"; Overkill, "Under The Blade"; Cradle Of Filth, "The Fire Still Burns"; Vision Of Disorder, "Don't Let Me Down"; The Step Kings, "Burn In Hell"; Fu Manchu, "Ride To Live (Live To Ride)"; Sebastian Bach, "You Can't Stop Rock 'N Roll"; Hammerfall, "We're Gonna Make It"; Sevendust, "I Am (I'm Me)"; and Twisted Sister, "Sin City."
