Moby Takes On Butterball Turkeys For PETA

(11/5/02, 5 p.m. ET) -- Just in time for the holidays, Moby has aimed his political activism at one of the largest producers of Thanksgiving turkeys and is asking the public to join him.
The ever-controversial artist and known vegan has created a voice-mail message for animal-rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA) that singles out the practices of ConAgra Foods, the makers of the Butterball turkey brand.
Moby says, "Hi, this is Moby for PETA's holiday hotline. Each year the Butterball turkey company sponsors a turkey talk line to answer questions about proper cooking techniques. Please join me in calling Butterball to let them know that there is no proper way to kill and cook these beautiful birds."
A spokesperson for ConAgra countered, telling LAUNCH, "We are committed to the humane treatment of animals. PETA has a track record of radical interpretations of the issues and this tactic does not surprise us."
Moby's message can be heard at 1-888-VEGFOOD.
