04/23/2001 10:00 AM, Yahoo! Music
(4/23/01, 10 a.m. ET) -- Elder statesman of hip-hop KRS-One releases his ninth album, The Sneak Attack, tomorrow (April 24). The first single from the album, "Hot," was produced by Grand Daddy I.U. and the Funky Four's Jazzy Jeff.
KRS-One recently shared with LAUNCH what he is trying to accomplish with the new album: "I'm trying to take it to when you bought By All Means Necessary by Boogie Down Production, you bought It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back by Public Enemy, you bought Straight Outta Compton by N.W.A....the feeling you got when you got that record is what I'm looking to achieve on this record. I'm trying to, as with all my records, we're designing them to be classics. This is not a record that is going to come out and just have its day and be gone."
KRS-One went on to express why the timing of The Sneak Attack is so important: "The subject matters we're dealing with are going to be with us for a while, and you gonna need to reach over to something and just nod your head to something that gives you hope because this dark cloud that we are all feeling, whether it's true or false, we're feeling it. We're feeling a dark cloud that the nation is getting ready to go back to injustice."
In related news, KRS-One has released some additional information on the activities that will take place during the 4th Annual Hip-Hop Appreciation Week, which takes place May 14-21. The week will begin with a proclamation ceremony on Monday, May 14 that will include contributions from New York Governor George E. Pataki, Manhattan Borough President C. Virginia Fields, New York Senator Chuck Schumer, Bronx Borough President Fernando Ferrer, and Assemblyman Keith Wright.
