Neil Finn Talks Eddie Vedder & The Who's John Entwistle

(7/25/02, 1 p.m. ET) -- Neil Finn wrapped up his U.S. tour on Monday (July 22) at New York City's Irving Plaza, capping off off a 19-date run that was highlighted by Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder joining Finn for a few songs on July 9 in Seattle.
Finn told LAUNCH about Vedder's surprise appearance, which featured performances of songs by the Who, the Mono Men, and his own former band, Split Enz.
"It's best when it's kept to being an unannounced and unscripted thing. And we were in Seattle and Eddie happened to be there and got up. We actually did a couple of really enjoyable covers, one Who cover because we had just been to see the Who play in their first... I saw the first show after John Entwistle died, so that was quite a profound and emotional thing. We sang 'The Kids Are Alright,' we did a song by the Mono Men, who are a legendary Seattle punk band, and we did 'History Never Repeats.' It was great. Eddie's like a coiled spring. He's got a lot of energy, that man."
Finn was on the road in support of his latest effort One All, and the album's first single, "Driving Me Mad." Also joining the singer-songwriter on tour was former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, who played several West Coast dates. Vedder and Marr are both featured on Finn's live album, 7 Worlds Collide, which was released earlier this year.
Neil Finn's next U.S. will be with brother Tim (Split Enz) as the Finn Brothers, he told LAUNCH.
