Bosstones Baseball In Boston

(4/13/00, 6 p.m. ET) - Mighty Mighty Bosstones premiered their video for the song "So Sad To Say" prior to the Boston Red Sox home opener at Fenway Park on Tuesday (April 11). The song is the first single from the band's new album, Pay Attention, due May 2. For Bosstones frontman and long-time Red Sox fan Dicky Barrett, it was a dream come true.

He told LAUNCH how he taped a little segment to introduce the video, which was shown against the stadium's outfield wall (the "Green Monster") 15 minutes prior to the game. "Somebody had filmed at Fenway Park me the day before in a full Red Sox uniform, and I came out of the Green Monster and it looked like a player was coming out of the wall. And then I pulled my hat off and I said, 'I'm Dicky from the Bosstones. Please check out this screen. Here's the brand-new video from the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Thank you to the Red Sox."

As to how the Mighty Mighty Bosstones got involved with the Red Sox in the first place, Barrett said, "We did a show for the All-Star game. The All-Star game was in Boston last year and we did a show there and we made friends with some of the people behind the scenes and some of the Red Sox management and office -- the head office as well as some of the players," he recalled. "We wanted to do something different with premiering our video. Anybody can launch it on MTV and we had the opportunity to premiere it at Fenway Park, and it was a thrill."

When asked if the experience was all he dreamed it would be, Barrett, with tongue planted firmly in cheek, replied, "No, because I expected the entire crowd to lose their minds and to carry me onto the field with me on their shoulders. That didn't happen, but it was still pretty good. Everybody cheered and it was exciting."
