(1/27/00, 1 p.m. ET) - The Mighty Mighty Bosstones have found a new saxophone player and are prepping a new album. The Boston ska-punk band completed work on the new set, Pay Attention, which is due out May 2; the album is the band's first since 1997's
Let's Face It. For the new record, Paul Kolderie and Sean Slade returned to the Bosstones producing chair -- they also produced Let's Face It -- while Andy Wallace lends his knob-turning magic as mixer. A source says that Pay Attention is a bit more "introspective" than its predecessor. Mighty Mighty Bosstones just finished a five-night Boston Hometown Throwdown stint, and the band will hit the road for an extensive U.S. tour in the spring. Vocalist-songwriter Dicky Barrett tells LAUNCH he's itching to hit the road after a bit of a break. "If I'm not on the road, I'm a freak. It was nice to have it, but I'd really like to get back to work and do what I do best." The track list for Pay Attention includes: "Let Me Be," "The Skeleton Song," "All Things Considered," "So Sad To Say," "Allow Them," "High School Dance," "Over The Eggshells," "She Just Happened," "Finally," "I Know More," "Riot On Broad Street," "One Million Reasons," "Bad News And Bad Breaks," "A Temporary Trip," "Where You Come From," and "The Day He Didn't Die." The band has also hired Roman "The Showman" Flysher to replace departed sax player Kevin Lenar. Flysher was hired after band member Tim Burton gave him a phone call; as the band says, it was an "extensive search, during which the band auditioned zero applicants." -- Darren Davis, New York
