Blues Traveler Popper Resurfaces With Frogwings
09/29/2000 6:00 PM, Yahoo! Music Craig Rosen
(9/29/00, 6 p.m. ET) - Blues Traveler frontman John Popper has resurfaced as part of Frogwings, the band put together by Allman Brothers Band drummer Butch Trucks. The album arrives in stores on Tuesday (October 3) on Flying Frog Records. Popper's trademark harmonica playing and vocals appear on the album, and Trucks admits that getting Popper's label to sign off on it was a bit of a headache. Trucks told LAUNCH about future dates with Popper. "I just got a commitment from Popper. We haven't played in two years. It's been kind of rough," he said. "With [Blues Traveler bassist] Bobby [Sheehan] dying, John's had a rough time. He's got Blues Traveler back together. He's in great physical shape right now, really feeling good. And from what I've heard, they're right in the middle of doing a great new Blues Traveler record." Frogwings are anticipating a booking on The Late Show With David Letterman some time around Thanksgiving, and Trucks said that could lead to a few one-off gigs. -- Darren Davis, New York
