Sixpence None The Richer To Return To The Road
10/04/2002 4:00 PM, Yahoo! Music Mark Armstrong
(10/4/02, 4 p.m. ET) -- Continuing its return from oblivion, Sixpence None The Richer has scheduled its first collection of tour dates in approximately three years. The guitar-pop group has lined up appearances at seven local radio festival appearances over the next three months in support of its next album, Divine Discontent, due October 29 from Reprise Records.
Performances on the The Wayne Brady Show and The Tonight Show With Jay Leno will also take place, both on November 7, while more radio appearances are anticipated.
Meanwhile, the group will embark upon a full-fledged tour in early 2003, its first since wrapping up its 1999 dates surrounding its hit self-titled album from 1997.
Concert sightings of Sixpence were rare in the last three years while the group was stuck in limbo as its record label, Squint Records, was offered for sale. (It was eventually acquired by Warner Bros.) But as the band has eased back into the spotlight with an occasional gig, reaction to the new material has been encouraging.
Singer Leigh Nash tells LAUNCH, "We did a show in February in Nashville, where we live, at this great little club called 12th & Porter and that really went very well, because we aren't really anything from the last record except for the two singles, 'cause we'd probably get stuff thrown at us if we didn't do those. But people were extremely responsive to it in a good way and seemed to love it."
Divine Discontent features the first single, "Breathe Your Name," which can currently be found at Number 26 on the Billboard Adult Top 40 chart.
