Freda Payne In Negotiations To Star With Hammer, Ice-T, & 'Superfly'

(5/9/01, 10 a.m. ET) -- Singer Freda Payne could be starring alongside the likes of Superfly's Ron O'Neal as well as rappers Ice-T, Tone-Loc, and MC Hammer. The singer told LAUNCH she has been in negotiations to appear in the film Deadly Rhapsody, a music-related thriller to be directed by former actor and NFL player Fred Williamson. The film, with that tentative cast, has been in development since last year.
Payne says that she would like to concentrate more on acting projects. Currently, Payne has a CD available titled Come See About Me. This album comes three decades after her big pop hit, "Band Of Gold."
Asked about how she views her longevity, Payne told LAUNCH, "At this point in my life I'm surprised that I'm still, I'm still kinda like--I feel like I'm just starting out almost! I guess that I'm still doing some of the same things that I used to do, except that I have a different head on my shoulders. And I'm a lot more mature, and I don't have as much 'run' in my system in terms of like hanging out and going out. I don't like to go out that much. I kinda like--I'm a stay-at-home person."
