Earth, Wind & Fire Share Memories Of Barry White

(7/8/03, 10 a.m. ET) -- Members of Earth, Wind & Fire shared memories of the late Barry White on Monday (July 7) after their Hollywood Rockwalk induction honors. Singer Philip Bailey recalled how EWF toured overseas with White several years ago, and every night the group would make sure to catch White in action on stage.
"We were big fans as well, so you know, we would go out and listen to him,” Bailey said. “It was great, just to have been able to experience that, you know, in Europe. What a voice. What a sound. And just a great person. Barry White will be sorely missed. I mean, like, he's part of the fabric of society."
EWF bandleader Maurice White agreed that the late singer, who died on the 4th Of July from kidney failure, was a unique talent who will be sorely missed. "Barry was, as he (Philip Bailey) said, a part of America,” said Maurice White. “You know, the sense of his presence in the music industry. He was a great producer, and I admired him from afar, and he will be missed."
