LL Cool J Signs Again With Def Jam Records

(7/10/03, 4 p.m. ET) -- Rap legend LL Cool J has renewed his contract with Def Jam Records according to Allhiphop.com. The rapper was initially looking for a $20 million deal but settled for an undisclosed amount to stay with the company.
LL Cool J, who released his tenth album, 10, in October on Def Jam Records described his new deal, saying, "We paved the way for an entire hip hop community and I am blessed to continue to call Def Jam my home."
Island Def Jam chairman Lyor Cohen added, "LL Cool J is a shining example of the longevity and power of hip hop. In fact, he is the embodiment of hip hop. He is one of the architects of the Def Jam culture. I am privileged to work with a man who is both a pioneer and a legend."
Cohen continued, "The entire Island Def Jam family is thrilled to have the opportunity to continue working with such a visionary and charismatic talent as LL Cool J. There simply would be no Def in Def Jam without him."
LL Cool J hopes to release his eleventh in December.
In related news, LL Cool J is one of the stars of the new movie S.W.A.T., which also stars Samuel Jackson, Colin Farrell, Michelle Rodriguez, and Jeremy Renner. The film, which hits theaters on August 8, chronicles the Los Angeles police department's struggle to keep a dangerous criminal behind bars.
