(9/8/03, 4 p.m. ET) - To fans, Seal IV--which comes out Tuesday (September 9)--is the singer's fourth album, but it is actually the fifth one he's made. Seal told LAUNCH that he trashed an entire album he'd made shortly after the turn of the century, simply because it didn't meet his goals of consistency and honesty.
"Above everything else," Seal said, "something that was heartfelt, something that was true--also, something that was relevant, which was probably the reason I scrapped the first one, because I didn't find that it bore any relevance to anything that I particularly wanted to hear about or anything that was going on in my life. So I got rid of it and started again."
After making the first attempt at the album in Los Angeles, Seal moved back to London to make IV with producer Trevor Horn, who had worked on his first two albums.
Seal released the first single from IV, "Waiting For You," in August.
He's recorded two songs for the soundtrack of the Julia Roberts film Mona Lisa Smile, which should come out in December.
Seal is planning to do a club tour of North America in November.
