(8/26/03, 1 p.m. ET) -- New Orleans-based rapper Mystikal, whose real name is Michael Tyler, was cleared by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals of copyright infringement on August 20, according to Billboard.com. The rapper and his label, Jive Zomba Recording, were hit with a copyright infringement lawsuit by Emanation Inc. in 2001. The company accused Mystikal of using several phrases from its handheld toy, Cajun In Your Pocket, in his 2000 hit, "Shake Ya Ass."
The court's ruling affirmed a lower court's decision that said the phrases, "We gon pass a good time, yeah, cher," and "You gotta suck da head on dem der crawfish," were not original and thus not protected by copyright law.
When LAUNCH spoke with Mystikal, he said that he had no hard feelings towards Emanation, Inc. and that he would be interested in partnering with the company in the future. "We did talk and I told them that I would definitely be interested in doing a Mystikal In Your Pocket, you know what I'm sayin'? For real, let's make some money," Mystikal said.
Mystikal is currently working on a new album titled Prince Of The South.
