Blues Traveler's John Popper Jams In Austin
03/15/2002 7:00 AM, Yahoo! Music Mark Armstrong
(3/15/02, 7 a.m. ET) -- John Popper says Blues Traveler has been "laying low" while in Austin, Texas, writing material for the band's next album, but he couldn't resist the lure of the local South By Southwest Music Conference and festival. So Popper wound up hopping on stage Wednesday night (March 13) at the District Bar & Grill with the Detroit band the Brothers Groove, playing harmonica during a lengthy rendition of Gil Scott-Heron's "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised."
Popper was turned on to the Brothers Groove by Blues Traveler keyboardist Ben Wilson, a Detroit native, and seemed to enjoy his time on stage, declaring to the crowd that "These guys fu--in' rock!"
Blues Traveler has scheduled a March 21 concert at Stubb's in Austin, whereupon it hopes to debut some of its new material.
