(10/10/03, 4 p.m. ET) -- Less than three months after a teenaged fan fulfilled her lifelong dream of meeting Queensryche singer Geoff Tate, the fan died last weekend of complications from a skin disorder, according to the Denver Post. Brittany Jo Woneis, who had reportedly listened to the group since she was a child, finally got to meet Tate and the rest of the band when they came to Denver in July. Tate dedicated "The Lady Wore Black" to her at the band's July 22 concert there. Brittany's mother Corinna Woneis--also a huge Queensryche fan--said the members of the group were "so nice to her... it wasn't just neat for Brittany, but for all of us."
Brittany suffered from the rare genetic skin disorder epidermolysis bullosa, which in its acute form causes the patient's skin to literally disintegrate at the slightest touch, causing painful blisters and wounds that resemble serious burns. The disease can attack the skin and internal tissue.
Brittany's funeral was held on Wednesday (October 8), 10 days short of her 18 birthday.
Queensryche plays the Checkered Flag in Appleton, Wisconsin, on Tuesday (October 14), and Jillian's in Louisville, Kentucky, on Thursday (October 16). A DVD-Audio version of their latest album, Tribe, appears on November 4.
